About The event
International Games Day is an initiative supported by the American Library Association's Games and Gaming Round Table, in collaboration with Nordic Game Day and the Australian Library and Information Association. The Games and Gaming Round Table (GameRT) of the American Library Association provides a venue for librarians interested in the use of games and gaming in libraries of all types to gather and share. The University of Miami participated in this event for the first time in 2016. Participation in International Games Day is led by UM Libraries in collaboration with the School of Communication and the UM Video Games Club.

about the university
Game Design is a focus of the Interactive Media program at the University of Miami in the Department of Cinema and Interactive Media at the School of Communication. Games are designed to solve problems and be used by industries like defense, education, scientific exploration, health care, emergency management, city planning, engineering, and politics.
The University of Miami Libraries collects materials in support of the game design program. The collection consists of board games, video games, video game consoles, role-playing game manuals, documentaries, and soundtracks. Along with providing materials, the library Learning Commons provides space for gaming and gaming events. Remodeling of the first floor is underway with future plans in the works for game creating space and technology to be added to the Digital Media Lab, where the video game collection currently resides.
The Video Games Club at the University of Miami brings together students who are passionate about video games and gaming culture.
